Detroit Tigers Update
The Detroit Tigers are a member of the Central Division of the American League of the MLB. Based, in Detroit, Michigan, the Tigers have been playing professional baseball from 1894. From 2000 to present they have been using Comerica Park as their ballpark. The name of the team the Tigers comes from the name of the 19th century military unit that was based in Detroit. The team has a variety of nicknames, including the Motor City Kitties, the Bengals, the Tigs, and the Bless You Boys.
The Tigers have been playing in the American League since 1901 and in 1998 they entered its Central Division. The club of the Detroit Tigers is one of the American League's eight charter franchises. In fact, Detroit, the only member of the Western League, is one of four clubs (with the Chicago White Sox, the Cleveland Indians, and the Boston Red Sox) still located in its founding city.
